In Dexter, Season 6, Episode 7, "Nebraska," once again Dexter kills someone he doesn't know for sure is a killer. Certainly, this guy finally threatens Dexter with a gun before he's pitchforked, and yet it's still interesting what type of guy this is. He's scruffy, he's growing pot in his cornfield, but most importantly, he is clearly a member of the ill-bred, ill-educated American underclass. He's not the type of person, in other words, who watches Dexter.
This episode also has a parody of Grant Wood's American Gothic, but with Dexter and the "ghost" of his brother standing in front of a picture of a house. I've pulled the picture below from one of several other blogs that pulled it. Certainly, Dexter is an example of an American gothic endeavor.
